Ripped Oak

Ripped Oak is a range that has been specially designed to show off the beauty and natural features of European Oak, in particular its grain patterns. By cleaving the wood with a special blade, rather than sawing, the grain of the wood gets separated in a completely natural way, showing all the wavy lines and undulations of the way the growth rings develop within the tree.

Before the boards are ready for finishing, they are scrubbed and prepared by hand to bring out the natural grain patterns and to remove the sharp edges that arise within all the rips and tears on the surface.

The boards consist of a 4 mm Ripped Oak top-layer bonded to a 12 mm Birch plywood base.

Large knots will break up in the cleaving process and will show the base underneath.

The knots are finished along with the board in the same colour Hardwax oil. Most of these knots will blend in with the floor but some colours will make them stand out. Due to the rough nature of the surface it is advised to allow enough wastage when ordering to allow the installer to be selective on site.

When the range was first introduced it contained 8 different colour tones. Popular demand quickly led to the range being expanded to its current 12 colours. From white to chestnut, to grey, to black, there is a colour to match any interior design.
